Requirements/What to bring
Mr. Kevin Baker is a celebrated music educator, entertainer, singer/musician and stage improv actor originally hailing from rural Saskatchewan. Mr. Baker began his music career performing in multiple bands throughout high school and university. Mr. Baker currently performs bass and background Vox with several musical projects including Indi rock band “Nickeltree” with seven original albums to their credit and the newly formed “Pete Mitchel Project” jazz trio based out of Kingston, Ontario. Upon arriving in Ontario twelve years ago, Mr. Baker immediately enrolled in “The Second City” Improv Training Center in Toronto where he acted through the five “open” adult levels before auditioning for the prestigious “Conservatory” program where he continued to study for an additional 13 months. Before graduating that program, he was hired as a musical director for the training center and for several of the professional touring troupes including “Ed Co.” (schools) and was the understudy MD for “Tour Co” and “Biz Co.” At the same time, he was also hired as an MD for the “Bad Dog” Improv Theatre. Mr. Baker also served musically for several prominent independent troupes such as Toronto’s “Slap Happy,” “The Kate Ashby Improv Academy” and currently performs with Ontario’s “GNO – Girls Night Out” touring show comprised of some of Canada’s top Women’s talent.
Mr. Baker specialises in instrumental and vocal music education and the dramatic arts and to this point has served various middle and high schools in both Saskatchewan and Ontario as the music teacher for the last 22 years. He currently is the Music Director at Smith Falls Collegiate Institute in Smith Falls, Ontario (Upper Canada District School Board) Mr. Baker has himself studied voice with some of North America’s finest vocalists and educators including Elaine Overholt (Big Voice Studios – Toronto) and internationally renowned classical vocalist and teacher, Dr. Mary Lou Vetere.
Mr. Baker is a blessed and grateful husband AND a father to two wonderful girls and resides in Kingston Ontario.
