Lying to Tell the Truth (Spoken Word)

Facilitated by Johnny MacRae

Date: Wednesday, May 3

Time: 4pm-7pm

Location: Kingston Community House (99 York Street)

Registration: Has now closed.

Workshop Description

Many poets, and often those who perform work at the poetry slam, give preference to writing from a personal perspective, and to perform work in a way that is considered raw and honest. This workshop questions the authenticity of the first person perspective in spoken word performance, and asks how fictionalized voices can offer unexpected ways for poets to speak truths. Beginning with some physical warm-ups, we will work through a series of exercises focused on active language, personification, and persona writing.
