Storefront Art Gallery

Call for Artwork

The Storefront Art Gallery is now accepting submissions of artwork!
Our Storefront Art Gallery returns to a mystery location in downtown Kingston. This year's gallery is presented in partnership with the Union Gallery and curated by Christopher Grant.

Exhibition theme: Human-Made Landscapes

Things like culture and place can influence our ideas about the natural world, just as they influence our ideas about human-made landscapes such as cities and towns. In this way, cities and towns, and natural landscapes are connected, even though we think of them as very different. If we reflect on our relationship to the cities, towns and communities that we live in, it can help to us to better understand our relationship to nature more broadly, and to better understand how we see ourselves in the world that we live in.

The Juvenis Festival is accepting submissions from artists with ties to the Kingston area between the ages of 13-30 for a juried group exhibition that aims to explore these ideas. How do we interact with the natural world? Does this differ from how we interact with cities and towns? For example, when we look at a city, do we even see the ‘nature’ anymore? Is our definition of nature unchanging or is it changeable? Does culture, gender, geography or era influence our understanding of nature?

The Storefront Gallery project of the 2017 Juvenis Festival supports the presentation of contemporary art in the form of original, collaborative and experimental projects ranging from beginner and novice artists to emerging professionals. We invite submissions of work in all media (visual art, sound, performance, video and new media). Works in progress will be considered as long as they provide a clear idea of the finished piece and if selected, they must be completed by April 27th, 2017.
