WHAT

Band Aid Theatre hopes to create work that is satisfying for each performer and audience member, by showcasing performers as themselves in a process working to heal their personal wounds with theatrical techniques and process-based creation. Band Aid Theatre hopes to heal not only wounds of performers but of audience members through common connection and interpersonal connectivity during performance.

WHY

Often as performers and people we feel tat our voices our heard but not understood. Band Aid theatre provides a space for anyone to speaks as themselves to an audience with the comfort level of their choice in expression and theme of personal ideas. The style breaks new ground in self-revelatory performance by mixing the worlds of ensemble acting, self-excavation, art as personal inquiry and collective creation.

WHO

ANYONE! Anyone can be a performer in the Band Aid setting. The doors are open to all performers because the required skills are simply to be you! Non-performers often find comfort in playing themselves on stage while being supported by others. The style is so accessible because of the variety of options presented to the performers to tell their stories.

HOW

When dealing with self revelatory theatre, we must be careful to be exploiting personal wounds for audience’s entertainment, that would be woefully against the mission statement of Band Aid theatre, and is practically unethical. SO in order to avoid that particular problem the ensemble is given choices at every turn in how to express their personal stories. Working with other styles of performance and interdisciplinary tools to affect the outcome of an intense personal story is often how one can feel liberated in the process, for example. The workshop process is to self excavate, and the final show is the presentation of those ideas to a small audience.
