Taking Your Story and Giving it to Others: A Writing Workshop with Andre Prefontaine Poetry is a fearless confrontation with oneself. It’s the inner dialogue turned outwards, all our reflections, thoughts and perceptions manifested onto page, perhaps, even, a stage. This workshop's goal is not to enable a single piece of writing to stand strong, more so, for the writer to feel capable within their journey. In order to achieve that there will be writing and performance exercises, however, the bulk of the session will be dealing with questions and dialogue about why we write, what we write about and how to confront the true sentiments we wish to convey to an audience.
Andre Prefontaine is a multi-award winning slam poet and arts educator based out of Toronto, Ontario. He has toured North America with a signature wit and delivery style that has given him an undisputed reputation as a writer and as a tragicomic hurricane of sassy all in one. A two-time Canadian Underground Slam champion(2012, 2013), team captain for the 2014 championship winning Toronto Poetry Slam team and two-victor of the Haiku Death match. Prefontaine has also used his poetry to branch into theatre with his one man show “(mE)dith piaf” that debuted as part of Buddies in Bad Times “Young Creators Unit” for the 2014 Rhubarb Festival, then toured to Halifax as part of the “Queer Acts” festival 2014. Unafraid, unabashed, sensitive and hilarious; brace yourself for one heck of a wild ride.
