Workshop Description

*Please Note: This is a two part workshop!

Workshop 1: Intro Class
Date: Sunday, April 30
Time: 11am-1pm
Location: Artists' Studios, Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning 

Working in the world of professional theatre and dance. These specialties demand a strong knowledge and ability to work in any lighting situation, ranging from strong stage light to extreme low light. The spontaneity of street photography demands a different set of skills. This workshop will offer tips on photographic skills and professional etiquette in the theatre and dance worlds as well as tips for surviving on the street. Participants will gain the skills in combining the science/technology of the camera with the art of photographic composition and style.

Workshop 2: Follow-up Session
Date: Sunday, May 7
Time: 11am-1pm
Location: Artists' Studios, Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning 

Having spent the week working on event photography, participants can bring their questions to the second workshop. It is recommended that participants bring their own photographs to this workshop to share their successes from the week, as well as any questions they may with to ask for tips on improving their work.

Mark Bergin

Mark Bergin is a writer, editor, musician, and photographic artist. He specializes in dance, theatre, street, concert, and fashion photography. His photographs include ancient stone circles and burial tombs in Ireland, surfers in Hawaii, and the underground world of New York City. His works—more than 800 articles and 2000 photographs—have appeared in publications around the world. He is a Tett Centre Creativity Studio Artist.

Sophia Kendall

Sophia Kendall is a photographer and equestrian. She is a Grade 11 student at LCVI in Kingston. She was selected last year to participate in the Limestone Foundation Crystal Ball mentorship program, working with Mark Bergin in photography. She was one of the original dancers in the Street Ballerinas Performance Art Project.
